Cash & worry!

CRAIG’S BOX FEAR

-

GOGGLEBOX narrator Craig Cash has landed a comedy role in The A Word spin-off Ralph and Katie.

However, he is nervous about what his couch-potato pals on the Channel 4 show will say if they have to watch it and pass judgement.

The actor and comedy star admitted: “Let’s hope they are kind if they have to see it. If they are kind then that would be great, but if not then it’s not so great.

‘‘But what can you do? If you live by the sword, you die by the sword.’’

Royle Family favourite Craig is playing a neighbour called Brian Denton in the BBC series Ralph and Katie who keeps an eye on the newlywed couple but keeps saying inappropriate things. The cast say he had them in fits of giggles, both on and off camera. Leon Harrop, who plays Ralph, said: ‘‘We had the funniest laughs ever.’’

The show is an off-shoot from the BBC smash The A Word, which starred Christopher Eccleston and dealt with the topic of autism.

This new six-part series – which launches on Wednesday, October 5 at 9pm – follows what happened to two of its breakout characters Ralph and Katie (Leon Harrop and Sarah Gordy) who get married.

The show is unique because both of its lead stars have Down’s syndrome – just like the characters they play in the show.

Former cast from The A Word – including Pooky Quesnel as Ralph’s mum Louise, Nigel Betts and Sherry Baines as Katie’s parents Steve and Clare, and Matt Greenwood as Tom – will also appear in the show.

One of the writers Genevieve Barr joked: ‘‘The series has some very interesting characters in a close community. We could repackage this series and make it the new Neighbours.’’
