GOLDEN BALLS NEEDS TO FIND HIS VOICE NOW

-

DRESSED like an extra from Peaky Blinders, there was David Beckham making his latest pitch for that elusive knighthood.

He’d queued through the night in his crombie and flat cap, spending up to 12 hours mixing with common folk so he could pay his last respects to the Queen in Westminster Hall.

Just imagine the look on his face when ‘Team Beckham’ warned him of the hardships he would have to put himself through in order to pull off one of the most transparent PR stunts of 2022.

“You what, go without a night’s sleep for a 10-second slot with the person who refused to give me the honour I’ve always wanted in the first place?”

Some people might think Beckham brave, honourable and selfless in making the effort to see the late Queen’s coffin laying in state.

The public flocked to sing his praises of course, slinging around the old ‘national treasure’ phrase with abandon. Others, however, have been left wondering just how far Beckham, apart from the 14 miles he queued up for, will go to let the new Monarch know he’s still around waiting for that gong.

After all, this is the same Beckham who will be thrust into the limelight once again in a few weeks, in his role as an ambassador for the most corrupt World Cup ever to be staged.

The former England captain is reportedly being paid £150m over 10 years to promote the tournament and country with one of the most despicable human rights records.

Beckham has lent his good looks to billboards, adverts and promotional campaigns as Qatar’s national sponsor.

But as of this week, he still hadn’t said a single word about what attracted him to this project, let alone tackle the burning issue of this nation’s appetite for relentless and abhorrent discrimination.

In the meantime, even the FA have beaten him to the punch and backed the ‘OneLove’ campaign, while demanding the families of migrant workers killed while building stadiums for the tournament be compensated.

Armbands of love worn by Harry Kane and Gareth Bale will hardly register with rulers who continue to deem homosexuality illegal. But money talks.

So if those in positions of influence are unable to speak the words needed, how about these multi-millionaires like Beckham pooling some of their obscene incomes to form their own compensation fund?

FIFA won’t do it. It’s because of them we’re heading to Qatar this winter in the first place.
