£80 A PINT
World Cup drinkers to get walloped in Qatar
FANS heading to the World Cup in Qatar face shelling out up to £80 for a pint.
Hotels and bars are bringing in sky-high cover charges for supporters who want to watch the games with a drink or two.
The Marriott Hotel’s Champions Sports Bar in Doha will charge £48 for group matches.
That gets you three drinks – Budweiser, Corona or wine – at £16 a drink. Knockout stages cost £180 and the semis and final a whopping £240 for a three-drink voucher, or effectively £80 a pint.
Ashley Brown, of the Football Supporters’ Association, said: “Qatar is going to be sort of bulging at the seams, and people may have trouble finding places to get in and watch the game and have a beer, that’s if they can afford to have a beer, of course.”
