TONY Adams admits Strictly is so tough it’s made him cry.

The footie legend, 56, has been in tears behind the scenes at the BBC show.

When he first started training sessions, he regretted signing up to compete. He said: “I went through the initial stages of ‘How can I get out of it? What have I done.’ When it was the first dance, I was so nervous. I cried for the first month. “Physically, emotionally, mentally, I was in bits. You’ve got nothing to hold on to. Every week you’re learning a new skill and it’s just brutal.”

Chatting on Good Morning Britain, he added: “I’ve done it to raise awareness of mental health and addiction issues and I’ve discovered I needed a little bit of growth myself. It really is an emotional journey.”

Tony’s been put through hell by dance partner Katya Jones, 33, with gruelling routines. He said: “We’ve had two months together now. The routines she’s putting on are incredible.

“Sometimes when I miss a step and she’s a little bit over critical, I just want to have a good time as well.

“It’s a balance between maybe letting me make a mistake and enjoying myself a little bit.”

Tony has beaten the odds to last seven weeks on the show and has already seen off rivals including Ellie Simmonds, 27, and James Bye, 38.

He said: “I’m doing my best. I’m working really hard.”
