WE’RE BOBBIES ..NOT NANNIES
BRITAIN’S biggest police force says only one call in five made by the public is actually about crime.
Sir Mark Rowley, head of the Metropolitan Police, said he plans to begin “pushing back” on dealing with non-police issues such as mental health call-outs.
He told a summit of the National Police Chiefs and Police and Crime Commissioners that only 22% of calls the Met receives are about crime.
He wants to stop sending officers to sit with those in mental health crisis as they wait in A&E, and cut paperwork, warning: “Some officers are more worried about not filling in forms correctly than confronting dangerous people on the streets.”
