Teens out of control

-

MY teenage daughters (14 and 15) are a nightmare.

They keep sneaking out to meet boys. They’re drinking, smoking and getting into trouble.

I never know where they are from one minute to the next.

I try to ground them but they just laugh in my face.

Things aren’t helped by my mum constantly telling them how wilful and sassy I used to be.

Yes, I was a pain, but my mum blows my authority out of the water every time she tells another hair-raising story about my misspent youth.

I’m stuck in the middle, and no-one is listening to me.

JANE SAYS: You may have been “high spirited” in your day, but were you getting into serious trouble?

Your mum needs to understand that this situation isn’t funny; you require solid support not constant undermining.

Point out that you’re not being a hypocrite, because drinking, smoking and indulging in anti-social behaviour is no laughing matter.

Call a family meeting and get tough. Put on a united front and lay down boundaries and set house rules.
