Kirk’s Minn it to win it

- AMERICAN FOOTBALL with IAN WHITTELL

VETERAN quarterback Kirk Cousins finally looks ready to write a new chapter in the Minnesota Vikings history books.

He was the star of the show as the Vikes edged past his former club Washington 20-17 last week and all eyes will be on him when his side visits the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at 6pm.

Cousins, 34, has won only one play-off game in his 11 seasons, and

Minnesota, a feared NFL powerhouse in the 1970s, have never won the Super Bowl – losing the big game four times in that decade.

But with seven wins from the first eight games, that could change as Cousins heads into the twilight years of his career. He said: “We’re finding ways to win. We keep grinding on.

“It feels great to win. I had so many warm memories coming in, so, on the way out, to be able to remember those as well with a win is so much better than after a loss.”

Buffalo will be looking to bounce back from just a second loss this season, against the New York Jets.

The Bills still top the division with a 6-2 record but the Jets and Miami Dolphins are hot on their heels at 6-3.

Straight-talking Bills QB Josh Allen took the blame for that loss.

He said: “It’s tough to win in this league when you’re playing a good team and your quarterback plays like crap.

“I made bad decisions that really cost our team.”

With the Jets resting on a bye week, the Dolphins can keep up the pressure on Sunday by beating the Cleveland Browns.
