Lingard’s real deal

- ■ by NEIL MOXLEY

JESSE LINGARD showed his true colours to leave Antonio Conte red-faced with anger.

The former Manchester United star added to the Tottenham manager’s growing frustration with a goal and an assist as Nottingham Forest finally discovered what all the fuss was about.

Lingard’s arrival had been greeted as a statement summer signing by manager Steve Cooper.

He hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot but he took his chance with both hands last night.

In the 50th minute he poked the ball towards Renan Lodl, galloping forward on the left.

The Brazilian collected and cut inside Davinson Sanchez before bending a curler past Fraser Forster.

Nine minutes later Lingard took centre stage.

Former Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier powered forward down the right and his cross to the far post was headed back into the danger zone by Sam Surridge for Lingard to glance home.

And to further add to Conte’s woes, PierreEmile Hojbjerg was substituted at the interval after coming under a crunching double tackle from Lingard and Lodl.

Forest had Orel Mangala sent off on 75 minutes but Spurs could not respond.
