Feeling cold? Then draw your curtains
LORD’S TOP ENERGY SAVING TIP MOCKED
MINISTERS are being urged to tell people to “close your curtains” to save £34million and help avoid blackouts.
A series of top tips could shave millions off bills, says one Government adviser.
But his advice has been mocked for being patronising.
In a letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Climate
Change Committee chairman Lord Deben, left, urged the Government to enhance its energy advice.
Ideas include closing curtains to keep warmth in and slapping film on your windows.
Adjusting radiator valves, reducing boiler flow temperatures, insulating tanks and draught-proofing windows and doors would also help.
In the process the Exchequer could save millions from the energy price guarantee, he said.
However social media users jeered at the ideas. One tweeted: “Telling nation to close the curtains may save millions...and wipe your noses while you’re at it?! Whatever happened to common sense?! Do we really need to be told to the nth degree by Government how to save money on energy…?!”
The Government said it was investing £6.6bn in energy efficiency during this parliament.
