‘I WAS BLIND TO AFFAIR’
DAME Emma Thompson said she was “utterly blind” to Kenneth Branagh’s affair with Helena Bonham Carter.
The Oscar-winner admitted she was “humiliated” by her exhusband’s romps and felt “unlovable” after finding out.
Dame Emma, 63, married Sir Kenneth, 61, in 1989 just two years after they met, but his affair with Bonham Carter ended their six-year marriage in 1995.
Speaking to the New Yorker, Thompson said: “I was utterly, utterly blind to the fact that he had relationships with other women on set.
“I was half alive.
Any sense of being a lovable or worthy person had gone completely.”
Two years before Bonham Carter, 56, and Branagh began their affair, she had worked with Thompson on Howard’s End. The two actresses have since worked together on the Harry Potter films, with Thompson playing Professor Trelawney and Bonham Carter starring as Bellatrix Lestrange. Thompson previously admitted she had long “forgiven” her rival. She also said it was her husband of 27 years Greg Wise, 56, who “picked up the pieces and put them back together”.
