BEER WE GO
Watch footie down the boozer.. and save on fuel bills
THREE Lions fans should watch the World Cup in the pub – because soaring bills make it cheaper than staying home.
Sitting on the sofa with a couple of shop-bought beers costs about £9.71.
But the same experience down the boozer works out around £8.
Researchers said rocketing gas and electricity prices made the difference. While two pints cost just £3.54 at home, fans can expect to use £6.17 of gas and electricity during a match.
Fans in the pub can expect to shell out less than a tenner for a couple of beers – and the landlord picks up the tab for light and heating.
Researchers did not even include the cost of a TV licence and based their estimates on a two-hour match.
If games go to extra time and penalties, home bills will be even higher. A spokesman for Gambling.com, which did the study, said 84% of fans plan to watch the action at home.
They added: “With the World Cup in a colder and darker time of year, plus soaring energy prices, fans will pay through the roof to follow the action at home. You could save £1.71 per game if you head to the local pub instead.’’
