Don’t wake teens
FORCING children out of bed early could harm them, scientists say.
Youngsters are “evening types” who reach their peak late in the day – and getting them up early upsets their “biological rhythms”.
Expert Dr Stuart Fogel said: “A lot of school start times are determined by parents and work-schedules, so school-aged kids pay the price of that because they are evening types forced to work on a morning-type schedule. “AM is not when they are at their best. “The researcher, from Canada’s Ottawa University, added: “Ultimately, they are disadvantaged because the schedule imposed on them is fighting their biological clock.”
His team found the brain works best when it performs in tune to its natural rhythms.
