Serbia versus Fulham over Mitro

- ■ by NEIL MCLEMAN

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC is at the centre of a club versus country row after being called into Serbia’s World Cup squad.

That is despite the striker (left) being ruled out of Fulham’s final Premier League game.

Serbia’s record goalscorer will miss Manchester United’s visit to Craven Cottage tomorrow with a nagging foot injury.

He revealed last month he is in a “lot of pain” and playing with the help of medication.

Ahead of talks between Fulham and Serbia next week, club boss Marco Silva said the hitman’s World Cup was in doubt.

“We have to wait and decide between our medical staff and the

medical staff of Serbia,” said Silva. “The injury is to his bone but not a break.

“It is not important what I prefer. My preference in this situation will not make any difference as I will not make the decision.”

The crunch will come if Fulham decide Mitrovic is not fit for Qatar but the striker insists on playing for his country.

“Mitro wants to play in the World Cup,” added Silva.

“You have to wait for a decision from our medical staff and the Serbian Federation and then we will make a decision.”
