It’s time we did it again

BLUR ARE BACK...

-

COOL Britannia is coming back next summer thanks to a huge Blur reunion.

Damon Albarn, Dave Rowntree, Alex James and Graham Coxon are getting the band back together for a very special show at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 8.

It will be Blur’s only UK appearance and first headline show together since 2015.

Damon said: “We really love playing these songs and thought it’s about time we did it again.”

Guitarist Graham added: “I’m really looking forward to playing with my Blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs… blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces…”

Next year marks 35 years since Blur were formed when bassist Alex joined Damon’s band, Circus, and they changed the name to Seymour.

They last played a surprise threesong set at Damon’s Africa Express event in 2019, but got together earlier this year to discuss doing something together again.

Incredibly, despite headlining many festivals over the decades, this will be the first time Blur have played Wembley Stadium.

Alex said: “There’s always something really special when the four of us get in a room.

“It’s nice to think that on July 8 that room will be Wembley Stadium.” There is arguably no better band to experience en masse, especially when those Parklife classics and Song 2 kick into gear.

Drummer Dave, who has a solo LP out in January, added “After the chaos of the last few years, it’s great to get back out to play some songs together on a summer’s day in London.”

The gig will feature support from rapper Slowthai and Mercury Prize nominee Self Esteem plus London-based electro-pop duo Jockstrap.

Tickets go on general sale on this Friday. Visit MetropolisMusic.co.uk for more information.
