£63M FRENCH MIGRANT DEAL
Bid to cut boat arrivals
RISHI Sunak says he is “confident” a new deal with France will cut illegal migrant arrivals to the UK.
As the number crossing the channel topped 40,000 this year he said the £63million agreement would help “grip illegal migration”.
It will see British border control officers stationed in French control rooms and a 40% increase in the amount of beach patrols in northern France. The Prime Minister said there was no magic solution to the situation, adding: “We can’t do it overnight. There’s lots more that we need to do.”
Home Secretary Suella Braverman said UK and French officers were working “hand-in-hand to stop the people smugglers”.
