Cleverly will be in Qatar
FOREIGN Secretary James Cleverly has vowed he will travel to Qatar after being blasted for his advice to gay football fans.
Labour MP Chris Bryant accused him of giving them a “slap in the face” by saying they should comply with local laws if they attend the World Cup.
Mr Cleverly told a Commons committee: “I will be going,” adding it was “my job to ensure British visitors stay safe”.
Mr Bryant asked if he would advise gay fans to protest in Qatar, where homosexuality is illegal.
Mr Cleverly replied: “No I wouldn’t. When British nationals travel overseas they should respect the laws of their host country.”
