Chimps in wild care to share
CHIMPS like sharing interesting things – just like us. A wild chimpanzee called Fiona was seen showing a leaf to her mum simply for sharing’s sake – behaviour previously thought unique to humans.
They also share experiences, using gestures to “remark” on them, say scientists at York and Warwick Universities.
York’s Dr Claudia Wilke said: “People love sharing experiences – social media capitalises on this trait, and even in our first year of life we start to show others interesting things we’ve found.
“It has been suggested that ‘sharing for sharing’s sake’ is a uniquely human trait, but our observation challenges this.”
