Sarina’s search for stars

- ■ by JACK LACEY-HATTON

SARINA WIEGMAN has highlighted the Lionesses’ final game of the year against Norway tonight as an opportunity for the squad’s young guns to catch her eye.

England Women are looking to complete 2022 without defeat after easing past Japan 4-0 last week.

The European champs have notable absentees in Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Lauren Hemp and Jordan Nobbs but emerging star Jess Park scored just over a minute into her debut, while Lauren James, Ebony Salmon and Esme Morgan also impressed against Japan.

Now coach Wiegman is hoping for more of the same in Murcia, Spain.

“The younger players are doing good, I think it is a great opportunity for them,” she said.

“We saw last Friday that with lots of changes and some younger players coming in that they were finding their way.

“It is good for them, but also good for us to see where they are at.”
