COPS RUN OUT OF TARQUINS TUCKER
Nicked activists’ vegan clearout
POLICE are running low on vegan meals because so many have been scoffed by arrested climate protesters.
Essex Police nicked and charged 17 activists after a crackdown on M25 Just Stop Oil demonstrators last week.
Many have ended up held on remand instead of being bailed, leaving custody officers desperate to find more £1 meat and dairy-free meals.
A source said: “The last couple of months we have come very close to running out of vegan ready-meals.”
Just Stop Oil called off the action, against new oil and gas projects in the UK, last week to give the Government time to “consider their responsibilities”.
Essex Police chief BenJulian Harrington reckons the climb down came after members realised they could not “drink coffee or a pint at the end of the day”, adding: “This is a serious offence with significant penalties.”
He went on: “The danger and disruption caused and their propensity to keep doing it means people are being remanded in custody – I think that’s come as a shock.
“I think some of those volunteers might have realised this isn’t a game.”
The force had to train up to 40 officers to “work at height” on gantries.
