SON OF A GUN ★★★ (2015) GREAT! movies action, 9pm

This Aussie thriller can’t decide if it’s a prison drama or an action flick. Ewan McGregor plays a bearded con who offers to protect a young inmate if he agrees to help him break out as soon as he’s released. But this is just half of the story, the pair then embark on a gold bullion heist. Also starring Brenton Thwaites and Alicia Vikander.

DEADPOOL 2 ★★★★ (2018) Film4, 9pm Ryan Reynolds breaks the curse of the comedy sequel with a decent follow-up to his arch superhero movie from 2016. This time the wisecracking, renegade X-man is pitted against Josh Brolin’s robot-armed soldier, who arrives from the future to assassinate a 14-year-old mutant (Julian Dennison). Also starring Zazie Beetz.
