Always bailing kids out

-

WHEN does the “bank of mum and dad” finally close?

My adult “children” never stop asking me for money.

They can always find cash for nights out and new phones, but when it comes to bills and roof repairs, we’re on speed dial.

My husband and I have four kids between us, aged from 23-35.

His daughter is particularly testing. She never saves or budgets. She claims she’s “spontaneous”. I say she’s feckless and selfish. She owes us thousands.

Now my eldest son and his partner are trying for a baby, but they’re always broke.

JANE SAYS: Start thinking about your own future. Work out how much they owe you; make it clear you want it ALL back.

Draw up a payment plan and then declare no more. Otherwise, you’ll still be giving them pocket money into middle age, while you’re struggling to find money to heat your own home.

Your children aren’t stupid. They know if they beg you for cash for the more boring things in life, then you’ll cough up. Meanwhile they never deny themselves treats.

Get tough or they’ll never respect you.
