Gianni’s big plea
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has called for a one-month ceasefire in Russia’s war on Ukraine during the World Cup.
Infantino, speaking at the G20 conference in Bali, insisted football can be a force for good.
But it comes just a week after FIFA urged the 32 national associations at the World Cup in Qatar to “focus on the football” rather than the controversies around human rights.
Infantino said: “Football can be the trigger for a positive gesture. My plea is for a temporary ceasefire, or the implementation of humanitarian corridors as a first step to peace.”
