SILVER SPOON

Pubs cost same as flats

WETHERSPOON pubs are up for sale for the same price as some London flats, despite one being up to 26 times bigger.

If one boozer – on the market for £450,000 – was in central London, it would have an asking price of £15million.

The North and South Wales Bank, Wrexham, inset, is an 8,696sq ft stone building with three-storeys.

Other pub The Postal Order in Worcester city centre has 7,347sq ft of space over two floors.

A studio flat, in central London’s Gloucester Street, also up for £450,000, has a floor area of just 334sq ft. Posh Belgravia estate agents John D. Wood & Co, says the property is “generous”. But it would fit inside the North and South Wales Bank 26 times, and 21 times inside The Postal Order. Wetherspoons is set to sell off 39 of its boozers across the country amid spiralling food, energy and labour costs, plus interest rate rises. After Covid more people are drinking at home and earlier this year the firm warned it may lose £30m.
