LIFE ★★★★ (2017) GREAT! movies, 9pm You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out what inspired this horror about a rapidly evolving alien predator stalking a rapidly dwindling team of terrified astronauts. But while the plot may be similar to Ridley Scott’s Alien, this tense, stylish space thriller has a fair few surprises up its sleeve. Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson star.

HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER ★★★★ (1973) ITV4, 9pm Clint Eastwood’s second film as a director is a violent western with supernatural undertones and a pitch black sense of humour. He plays a mysterious stranger who is hired to protect a frontier town from three outlaws. Things take a sinister turn when their saviour takes control of the town and seeks to punish them for past sins. With Verna Bloom.
