TONEY CHARGE

- ■ by NEIL McLEMAN

IVAN TONEY faces a big ban after he was charged with 232 breaches of FA betting rules.

It’s been revealed that the Brentford striker’s alleged offences took place over a four-year period up to January 23, 2021.

The news comes just days after Toney (left) was overlooked from the 26-man England squad for

Qatar. Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate insisted the betting probe had not impacted his decision.

The FA has a worldwide ban on betting on any football match or competition and on football-related matches such as transfers.

England full-back Kieran Trippier and ex-Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge have fallen foul of the rules.

In Toney’s case, it is believed none of the betting was against his own teams.

The FA said: “Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

“It is alleged that the forward breached FA rule E8 232 times between February 25, 2017 and January 23, 2021.” He has seven days to respond.
