A PORTUGAL side missing Cristiano Ronaldo thrashed Nigeria 4-0 as they prepare for the opening World Cup Group H match against Ghana on Thursday.

Ronaldo’s Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes scored twice – one a penalty – with further goals from Goncalo Ramos and Joao Mario.

Emmanuel Dennis missed a penalty for Nigeria nine minutes from time with Portugal keeper Rui Patricio pushing his effort against the post.

Ghana beat Switzerlan­d 2-0 thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.

Spain cruised to a 3-1 victory in Jordan last night with goals from Ansu Fati, Gavi and Nico Williams.

Japan, in Group E with Spain, lost their friendly 2-1 against Canada. Yuki Soma opened the scoring in the ninth minute but Steven Vitoria equalised before Lucas Cavalini won it with a late penalty.
