DRINKS INSPIRED BY TELLY AND MOVIES...
★ OH my Og! As we reported yesterday, Coronation Street has launched its own gin inspired by Hilda Ogden’s flying ducks. PEAKY BLINDERS
Drink up – by order of the Peaky Blinders! Sadler’s Ales has been making drinks linked to the 1900s Birmingham gang show since 2014. Founded in 1861 in Stourbridge, West Midlands, the company has won awards for its Sadler’s Peaky Blinder pale ale and the label features the flat cap-wearing mobsters who inspired the show, which stars Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby.
GAME OF THRONES
Drinks giant Johnnie Walker teamed up with GoT to produce a White Walker whisky inspired by those fearsome ice creatures from the show. Not only was it made with single malts from one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, the frozen bottle reveals an unexpected message – Winter is Here. The brand went on to release a whole set of GoT-inspired whiskies.
BREAKING BAD
Schraderbräu is the mythical home-brew of Walter White’s DEA agent brother-in-law, Hank Schrader. But actor Dean Norris made it a reality in 2019 after producing the German lager via his Rust Belt Brewing company. He said: “In our minds, this is the exact beer Hank brewed on the show, without the caps popping off, of course!”
DALLAS
The Texas show’s oil magnate JR Ewing, played by the late Larry Hagman, was a schemer known for his love of bourbon. And in 2014, a tipple dedicated to him went on sale featuring the character’s signature and a picture of Southfork Ranch on the label.
THE WALKING DEAD
The creators of the zombie show, which starred Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, released this limitededition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey in 2019. No word on whether it could bring you back from the dead.
DOWNTON ABBEY
Perfect for a cocktail party at the country estate, Yorkshire distillery Harrogate Tipple makes swanky officially licensed Downton Abbey-inspired spirits including a gin and a whisky with suitably aristocratic price tags (£35 a bottle). Just be careful Carson doesn’t catch you!
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON
The GoT sequel, starring Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy, got its own wine courtesy of Wolf Blass – a suitably blood-red Cabernet Shiraz for this gore-packed show. It’s available in UK supermarkets for around £12-£14 but be quick – it’s limited edition.
STAR TREK
Talk about out-of-thisworld! This James T Kirk straight bourbon whiskey features the signature of the starship captain played by William Shatner and the Starfleet insignia. Now where did I leave the Enterprise?
ANCHORMAN
Ron Burgundy Great Odin’s Raven Special Reserve was created for the Anchorman sequel in 2013. It was inspired by the opening scene in the first film where Ron, played by Will Ferrell, declared: “I love Scotch, Scotchy Scotch Scotch”.
