Musk has got his Twitters in a twist

‘SYSTEM COULD GO DOWN’ AS HE SHUTS OUT STAFF

- ■ by JOE FARETRA news@dailystar.co.uk

ELON Musk has temporarily closed Twitter’s offices as staff leave in their droves – sparking concerns it could fail to stay online.

They have been shut until Monday over fears exiting workers could sabotage the social media company in the wake of its takeover by the world’s richest man.

It comes after hundreds of staff rejected Musk’s ultimatum to sign up for longer working hours to build a new “hardcore” Twitter.

The controversial tech chief, who has already fired half the 7,500 workforce, said those who did not agree would be let go.

Now an industry expert says the chances of Twitter being knocked offline have “dramatically increased”.

Matt Navarra warned

Twitter was “already at greater risk” of falling offline because of the initial job cuts, but there had now been a “significant shift” after more departures.

Mr Navarra believes the service is unlikely to go down in the next few days but could struggle at “key moments of the World

Cup” when traffic is high.

He said the ability to fix problems would be “greatly reduced because of the lack of skilled engineers” after the latest walkouts.

He added: “If there’s a time when it is going to go offline, I think the greatest risk is going to be during some of the key moments of the World Cup.”
