DAVIES TOPS TEL OF A SHOW

- ■ Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

ANTHONY YARDE can secure his world title showdown with Artur Beterbiev tonight.

The British lightheavyweight can get pulses racing for the possible world title clash in January.

Anthony takes on Stefani Koykov as part of a top show in Telford, which is headlined by Liam Davies’ European superbantamweight clash with Ionut Baluta.

Yarde will shake off ring rust before having a second crack at becoming a world champion next year. He pushed Sergey Kovalev all the way in 2019 and showed his maturity by getting revenge against Lyndon Arthur last year.

But he must come through unscathed tonight to keep that January date with WBC, WBO and IBF champion Beterbiev in what will be a huge show for us to bring to the UK.

In the main event the unbeaten Davies (right) is coming off a great win over Marc Leach to land the British title – and now wants a European belt.

But in Baluta he faces a tough test. The Romanian beat Brad Foster last time out and also has wins over Irishmen TJ Doheny and David Oliver Joyce.

There should be a great atmosphere tonight in Telford, where Davies has built up his fanbase. Also keep an eye out for Eithan James, who takes on Keanan Wainwright in a light-welterweight clash.

While Jamie Stewart against Owen Cooper is a great Midlands area title bout at welterweight.

Hopefully sports fans can get their fix with no Premier League football on as they wait for the World Cup to start tomorrow.

It’s sure to be a great night in Telford and you can catch all the action live on BT Sport if you’re not there.
