Anthony happy to get p **** d

- ■ by DAVID ANDERSON

ANTHONY YARDE claims being “p **** d off ” brings the best out of him as he prepares for his showdown with light-heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev.

Yarde has a tune-up fight against Stefani Koykov in Telford tonight before facing Beterbiev early next year for the WBC, IBF and WBO titles.

He has earned his shot at the Chechen-born Canadian as the WBO’s No.1 challenger, having failed in his first world title bid when he lost to Sergey Kovalev in 2019.

Yarde said: “When there’s that element of the unexpected, that’s when you get the best version of me.

“When I’m p **** d off, that’s the best version of me.

“I’m on that mission and I’m p **** d off.

“Until I’m happy, I’m going to stay p **** d off.

“I’m going to go in there and be the best version of myself.”

Yarde has had to be patient and it is nearly 12 months since he avenged his shock 2020 defeat to Lyndon Arthur by stopping him in four rounds.

The Ilford scrapper has used the time to prepare for Beterbiev, who has won seven consecutive world title fights and added the WBO belt last time out in June against Joe Smith Jr.
