Show-off time for Grecians
EXETER boss Gary Caldwell wants his team to give TV viewers a pre-World Cup appetiser as the cameras descend on St James Park.
The Grecians take on high-flying Ipswich at lunchtime live on Sky and boss Caldwell (inset) knows an audience ready for a month-long football feast in Qatar will want to be entertained.
He said: “Being on TV allows not only our own supporters but the wider audience to see that we are a club on the up and one that plays an attractive brand of football.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to show ourselves off in a positive way.” Ipswich sit four points behind leaders Plymouth, who travel to struggling Burton this afternoon.
But Brewers boss Dino Maamria expects his side to give the Pilgrims a tough test.
He said: “We’re playing against top opposition but I don’t want to go into games, sit behind the ball and let the opposition dominate the game.
“Our fans don’t want to see that, especially at home. They come here to be entertained and to see us play attractive, front-foot football, no matter who we are up against.”
The other teams alongside Burton in the relegation zone are all away from home, Forest Green travelling to Oxford and Morecambe and Lincoln meeting ahead of their Papa John’s Trophy game on Tuesday.
Bristol Rovers welcome Peterborough to the Memorial Stadium, Charlton face the long trip to Port Vale, Accrington go to Cambridge and Cheltenham and Wycombe meet.
