‘Becky cop has to quit’
THE mum of a woman murdered by taxi driver Christopher Halliwell is calling for a police chief to stand down.
Karen Edwards has demanded accountability over mistakes in handling the probe into Becky Godden-Edwards’ death.
She said: “My family should have been spared years of anguish.”
A report ruled “significant opportunities” to bring Halliwell to justice sooner were missed.
He strangled Becky, 20, of Swindon, Wilts, in January 2003 and buried her in a field.
But her murder only came to light in 2011 when Halliwell was arrested over the disappearance of Sian O’Callaghan, 22.
Even then it was five more years until Halliwell was finally found guilty.
Wiltshire Police Chief Constable Kier Pritchard received “management action” over the misconduct which furious Ms Edwards described as “a slap on the wrist”.
She added: “What gives the police the right to pick and choose who they investigate properly? Why should Becky have a thirdclass service?”
