WORLD SUPERBIKE champion Alvaro Bautista signed off the year in style with a double win in Australia.

Bautista (inset), who was crowned champ last week in Indonesia, celebrated his victory in the Superpole race at Phillip Island after a risky tyre gamble on a drying track paid off, before holding off Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea in the final scrap to take victory by just 0.357secs.

“What can I say? Today was amazing,” he said. “I am really happy to have ended the season like this. “That Superpole race was one of the best in my World Superbike career.

“I asked to put the slick on and had confidence, even though after the warm-up lap I had some doubts! “What a season.” Toprak Razgatlioglu finished fourth but it was enough to beat Rea to the runner-up spot in the standings.
