ARMBAND AID FROM TV’S ALEX
DEFIANT BBC World Cup pundit Alex Scott wore a “One Love” armband at England’s opening match – after football chiefs outlawed them.
The former Lionesses’ defender put on the rainbow symbol pitch-side in support of the LGBTQ+ community.
Alex, 38, stepped in when England axed plans for captain Harry Kane to wear one in games after FIFA shamefully threatened to make it a yellow card offence.
FIFA bosses warned the FA players who wore them would be booked or ordered to leave the pitch.
In a joint statement with Wales, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, the FA said: “We are very frustrated by the FIFA decision which we believe is unprecedented.” LGBTQ+ fans’ group 3LionsPride tweeted it was “more than disappointing”. Meanwhile Joe Lycett said he did not shred £10,000 in a protest over David Beckham’s multi-million pound involvement in the World Cup, after appearing to do so in a video.
The comedian said he would “never be so irresponsible” and had given the cash to LGBTQ+ charities.
