New girl ignores my kids

-

IT upsets me that my new girlfriend isn’t interested in my teenage children.

They’re good kids and my ex-wife is a great mum.

I encourage them to drop round whenever they like, only my girlfriend totally ignores them. She’s not interested in their successes or opinions.

She puts in her headphones when they try to chat. She says she can’t think of anything to say.

Recently, during a half-term trip, she sat and looked at her phone while I did all the entertaining.

Would it kill her to make an effort?

JANE SAYS: Your children deserve love and respect.

Have a chat with your girl about how important it is that everyone gets along.

Accept that engaging with teenage children is often hard, especially if she has no experience of kids.

Give her tips on the kinds of subjects that your children are interested in.

But if you realise she has no interest in trying to break the ice – and is making your children feel uncomfortable – then is she really the one for you?

She does sound rather immature and selfish.
