Tea and a tipple save us

-

TEA with breakfast and a glass of red wine at dinner could slash the risk of developing dementia.

The drinks are rich in antioxidant flavonols – plant chemicals that boost blood flow to the brain, say scientists.

Older people who consumed most had better memory skills. The compounds are also in fruit and vegetables.

Lead author Dr Thomas Holland, of Rush University, Chicago, said: “It’s exciting our study shows specific diet choices may slow cognitive decline.”
