Penny’s Pleased she had a Wimpy STAR SPOTTED IN BAR

-

PLEASE Sir! legend Penny Spencer has revealed she was discovered in a Wimpy.

The Uxbridge lass had no plans to go into showbiz when she was approached by an agent in the burger bar as a youngster. Penny said: “I had no idea about the business at all. Honestly, I had no ambition to be an actress.

“I was sitting in a Wimpy bar waiting for my mum to turn up when this woman approached me and said, ‘I’m a theatrical agent and you have the perfect face for television.’” Penny then joined a theatre group and soon landed TV roles. She then became a household name playing schoolgirl Sharon Eversleigh in the ITV sitcom.

Penny added: “Nearly 55 years on and people are still asking me about Please Sir! It’s still very much remembered.

“Not that I mind in the slightest. I’m very proud of it. On occasions I’m a little coy around my grandchildren, whether they know that their silly old grandmother was a bit of a trendsetter back in the late 60s.

“All these years on, I’m still me. I’m still here. At one with the universe and leaving something positive behind. Something funny. That’s good enough for me.”
