MANCHESTER UNITED owners the Glazers have put ‘for sale’ signs up at Old Trafford after 17 controversial years in charge.

In news which will delight United fans, the Tampa-based family have confirmed they are looking for outside investment.

That could mean either offering a partial stake in order to bring in funds to help redevelop Old Trafford or a full scale sale of the club, which the Glazers value at £9bn, although

a more achievable target would be over £5bn.

A statement issued by the Glazers to the New York Stock Exchange read: “Manchester United plc announces today that the Board is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions.

“This will include stadium and infrastructure redevelopment and expansion of the club’s commercial operations.”

Executive co-chairmen Avram and Joel Glazer added: “We will evaluate all options to ensure that we best serve our fans and that Manchester United maximizes the significant growth opportunities available to the Club today and in the future.”
