RIVERS IN DEEP DO-DO

WATER firms released raw sewage into UK rivers and the sea almost 150 times in dry spells – despite being told to do so only in heavy rain, campaigners claim. Surfers Against Sewage recorded at least 146 “dry spills” between October 2021 and this September. Spokeswoman Amy Slack said: “It’s high time the Government stepped up and took real action to curb the destructive and selfish behaviour of the water companies responsible.”
