City’s joy as Pep stays on

- ■ by JEREMY CROSS

PEP GUARDIOLA had no hesitation in signing a new contract with Manchester City – but has warned he won’t be around forever.

He has penned a two-year extension worth £20m-a-season that will keep him at the Etihad until 2025.

The Spaniard insists he is still loving his job and life in Manchester, having won 11 trophies since taking charge in 2016.

But Guardiola, who has still to win the Champions League with City, said: “I love my job and I have everything to do it. I cannot be in a better place now.

“The moment I don’t feel that, for family reasons, or I have achieved everything I want to achieve, or I don’t feel comfortable with the team, or it’s not a pleasure to fight for another Premier League, when these feelings disappear I will step aside.

“That is normal in life. I am not eternal. Every day we are here, we are closer to the end. That is normal.

‘‘But still I have this feeling there is something more to do.

“I have everything I need to do my job best as possible. I have the support. We discuss a lot what we can do better. We have to do better.”

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City Football Club will continue.

‘‘He has already contributed so much to the success and fabric of this organisation, and it’s exciting to think what might be possible given the energy, hunger and ambition that he clearly still has. Like every City fan, I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”
