No happy ever after

FAIRY tales are in danger of dying out as snowflake parents believe they are “inappropriate” for kids.

As many as 89% of young adults think stories like The Three Little Pigs, Beauty and the Beast and Little Red Riding Hood are “outdated” and have a “sinister” side.

They are also worried about sexism and gender stereotyping.

Despite being read to children for generations, one in three adults admitted they were shocked to discover the scarier elements of some fairy tales.

Those under fire include Hansel and Gretel, which 46% of those quizzed thought was inappropriate, followed by Little Red Riding Hood (28%).

Of the 18 to 29-year-olds spoken to, 13% thought The Snow Queen had a sinister side, while 12% thought the same of The Three Little Pigs.

The poll by Smart lighting brand Twinkly also found the most loved fairy tales, with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White the top three. Alessio Mancarella, from Twinkly, said: “While many younger Brits deem certain fairy tales to be outdated and even a bit sexist, many are still beloved of all ages.”
