Captain Kane is flying fit

HARRY KANE arrived at this World Cup in the best shape of his career.

But England boss Gareth Southgate still ensured his training sessions were managed last week when he arrived in Doha.

Three Lions captain Kane is ready to start against the USA tonight despite fears over a foot injury which needed a scan.

But Southgate agreed with Tottenham boss Antonio Conte who said earlier this month that Kane was flying fit coming into the tournament.

“Yeah, he’s in a good space. Definitely,” said the Three Lions boss.

“We managed him a little bit last week through training because of the load he had had so I think we’re always conscious of that and we do that with lots of players really.

“Some of our guys haven’t played as much football and need pushing a bit more at certain times so we’re always individually preparing that but he’s in a good space.”

Southgate and his medical team have studied extensive video footage of Harry Maguire’s involvement in certain challenges against Iran to make sure he did not suffer concussion, and the Manchester United defender is set to start against the US.

James Maddison, meanwhile, is expected to return to training tomorrow. The Leicester midfielder has only trained once with the team since arriving in Qatar.
