‘Gutted’ Bale is defiant

-

GARETH Bale said he was “gutted” by Wales losing 2-0 to Iran but they have to pick themselves up and take on England.

They are praying for a “miracle” after the gut-wrenching injury-time defeat left their World Cup dreams in tatters.

The Dragons looked to have scrambled a point despite being reduced to 10 men after keeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off for a reckless challenge.

But Iran scored twice in stoppage time to send their 30,000 fans wild and break Welsh supporters’ hearts.

Rob Page’s men now need to beat England in Tuesday’s final Group B match to stand any chance of qualifying for the last 16.

Fan Gareth Newell, 39, said playing in the midday sun had hit Wales hard.

“I’m gutted,’’ said the ground worker from Merthyr Tydfil. “We still have hope. We will never give up. But we need a miracle now.”

Pal Craig Gabb, 40, added: “Miracles can happen.”
