It’s call over for daft Ally
ALLY McCoist lost his new mobile phone at the World Cup before he had even taken it out of its box.
The Rangers legend was handed a Qatari handset to help him communicate with ITV colleagues.
But within six hours it had gone.
The former Ibrox player and manager was ribbed about his misfortune by commentating colleague Jon Champion during coverage of Portugal’s win over Ghana at Stadium 974.
Champion told McCoist: “The other reason it’s called 974 is that’s the dialling code for Doha.
“Actually you may not know that having just lost your Qatari phone six hours after it was first put into your possession.”
McCoist, 60, said: “That’s poor, it really is, sharing that with the nation.
“I might as well tell you the full story, I hadn’t even taken it out of the box and that’s a record for me.”
Fan Chris Ready, who was watching the match which was scoreless at half-time, wrote on Twitter: “The story of Ally has been the most entertaining thing about this game so far.”
