SUNAK JUST STOP ORDER FOR COPS

- ■ by NADEEM BADSHAH news@ dailystar.co.uk

RISHI Sunak will demand police chiefs crack down on eco mob Tarquins – who are set to spark more road chaos today.

The PM ordered crunch talks with forces and is expected to urge them to “fully enforce the law” to tackle crusty protesters.

He told Home Secretary Suella Braverman to urge police bosses to use tougher powers to handle demos, sources claim.

It comes as Just Stop Oil (JSO) protesters are plotting to bring fresh mayhem to London today with demos until mid-December.

A Government source said: “It is clear there is more that can be done on enforcement.

“The Prime Minister would like to see the College of Policing guidance on public order updated to reflect the additional powers afforded to the police via the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act and set out clearly how the police should use these powers.

“He is open to looking at how a code of practice could help ensure the right balance.”

More than 1,800 arrests have been made over the JSO movement since March.

Some 62 people have been charged over protests on the M25 since then, with 29 of them remanded in custody.

And over 11,000 Met Police shifts have been devoted to tackling JSO.
