PAUL Newman hailed Sean Connery as “one of the toughest men on the face of the earth” – because he had a stomach of steel.
The late Hollywood legend was awestruck by the Scot’s ability to chomp on fiery chilli peppers.
In Newman’s memoirs, The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man, he wrote: “I saw Sean grab a big handful of these peppers, pop them in his mouth, and start to chew.
“I waited for the top of his head to lift off his neck but nothing happened.
“I’d never been so awed. I came to regard him as one of the toughest men on the face of the earth.”
