Trippier airs his concern

- ■ by CHRIS McKENNA

THE World Cup ball is too light and “flies away” if players put power in their shots, claims Kieran Trippier.

The Newcastle right-back is not sure the Al Rihla ball being used in this tournament is the best for those with attacking prowess.

He said: “I feel it’s a bit lighter. It feels if you put too much power on it, it’ll just fly away but yeah it’s one of them where we have to deal with that, all of us do.

“We train with the same ones. It’s a football, isn’t it?”

Even Lionel Messi seems to be struggling with the ball as he fired over a free-kick against Mexico on Saturday and looked perplexed at how high it went.

The Adidas-made ball is the first to be questioned since the Jubulani from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

That caused huge controversy and was labelled a “supermarket ball” as it moved so much in the air and caused problems for keepers.
