I won’t give Kane a rest
GARETH SOUTHGATE has no intention of resting Harry Kane and will unleash the England captain on Wales tonight.
Southgate has faced growing calls to rest Kane who has come under fire following his listless performance in the disappointing goalless draw against USA.
But the manager will not bow to public pressure and has told Kane he wants him to go out and shoot down Wales.
Southgate is keen to field his strongest side and admits he is not in the business of handing out caps to stars like back-up striker Callum Wilson unless players deserve them. He said: “We haven’t qualified yet. We just have to make best decisions with the information we have and prepare the team in the best possible way.
“We want to win the group. There has to be a balance of freshness. The two games have taken a lot out of the players. But it’s also about stability and if you make lots of changes you can lose a bit of rhythm as well.
“It’s always a challenge [keeping everyone happy], because we have 26 players, but at major tournaments it’s not about giving caps out.”
