DERBY JOY... SOUTT YOU GERS
JOHN SOUTTAR says Rangers’ victory over Scottish Premiership champions Celtic was a sign of things to come.
Todd Cantwell, Souttar and Fashion Sakala scored as Gers boss Michael Beale oversaw a 3-0 Old Firm win at his fifth attempt on Saturday.
Gers defender Souttar said: “It was a huge game for everyone in that dressingroom. There will be a lot of changes in the summer, the manager has already said that.
“So everyone had a point to prove, individually and collectively. I think you saw that today. That has to be a glimpse into the future for Rangers under this manager.
“This season hasn’t been good enough, we all know that. Next year it has to be a lot better.”
Celtic skipper Callum McGregor insists Ange Postecoglou’s side will bounce back ahead of the Scottish Cup final meeting with Inverness Caledonian Thistle when they can wrap up the domestic treble. He said: “You don’t suddenly become a bad team. We have to recognise we’re the champions, we’ve been good enough over the course of the season to say that we’re champions.
“We’ve had a bad day. That’s not acceptable and we know that. We’ll dust ourselves down and we’ll go again. We’ve still got three games to go in the league plus a big cup final.
“And when that’s done we start all over again from nothing the following season.”
Hearts held on to fourth place despite being held to a 2-2 draw by St Mirren as fifth-placed Hibernian played a scoreless stalemate at Aberdeen.
Ross County moved off the foot of the table with a 3-1 win at Dundee United who now lie bottom.
