LEAGUE TWO

-

ACCRINGTON 0 CRAWLEY 1

HARRY RANSOM hopes his first goal of the season proves significant for Crawley’s promotion push.

Crawley are two points off the final play-off slot after defender Ransom headed home from a corner.

He said: “We definitely deserved the win.

“Whoever puts a run together is probably going to get that last slot. There is something riding on every game.”

Stanley remain in touching distance, three points below Crawley.

FOREST GREEN 1 TRANMERE 0

CHARLIE McCANN is convinced Forest Green can eat up a four-point deficit and escape relegation.

McCann’s strike was enough for a second win in three games, despite Ryan Inniss’ sending off late on.

Forest Green are still second bottom but McCann said: “We are making moves in the right direction. If we can keep the momentum going, we should be able to get ourselves out of this and I think we will.”

MANSFIELD 5 SALFORD 1

BAILY CARGILL was delighted to score in a rout that took Mansfield top.

Will Swan, Davis KeillorDunn, Lucas Akins and Hiram Boateng also scored, while Junior Luamba replied for Salford, who had Theo Vassell sent off at 3-0.

Defender Cargill said: “I gambled back post and got a toe on it.

“Everyone wants to be top of the league but we have to concentrate on ourselves.”

Ammies boss Karl Robinson said: “We know what we have to put right.”

NOTTS COUNTY 1 CREWE 3

ELLIOTT NEVITT says Crewe’s arrival in the top three is no fluke.

Nevitt’s penalty was sandwiched between goals from Mickey Demetriou and Josh Austerfield, with Jim O’Brien’s reply too late for County.

Striker Nevitt said: “We have worked so hard since the start of the season to be where we are and we deserve it.

“We need to keep it going and see where we are at the end of the season.”

GILLINGHAM 1 WREXHAM 0

JORDAN TUNNICLIFFE insists Wrexham’s promotion bandwagon has not come off the rails.

Timothee Dieng’s goal propelled Gillingham into the play-off places and forced Wrexham to drop out of the automatic slots.

Just two wins in eight have seen the Hollywood-backed Red Dragons falter.

Defender Tunnicliffe said: “It’s a good team and a good squad. We all want promotion and so we will rally together.”

Dieng settled it from a 55th-minute set-piece.

MK DONS 3 NEWPORT COUNTY 0

ALEX GILBEY says the Dons’ top target will always be automatic promotion.

The skipper added to goals from Dan Kemp and Jack Payne to leave his side in fifth, three points behind third-place Crewe.

He said: “You can never say no to a play-off spot, but I know where I want to be and that’s in the top three.

“I won’t shy away from that, we want that and it’s what we’re working towards.”

STOCKPORT 0 SWINDON 0

JACK BYCROFT was pleased to keep the clean sheet that knocked Stockport off the summit.

County were leapfrogged by Mansfield after failing to get past Robins keeper Bycroft.

He said: “During the week we watched a load of clips and saw the way they play. It is positive to come away with a clean sheet and a point and hopefully we can build on that performance.”

County defender Ethan Pye said: “We can’t let our heads drop too much.”

DONCASTER 1 AFC WIMBLEDON 0

TOM ANDERSON (left) said he didn’t mind 87 minutes of jeopardy as Doncaster extended their unbeaten streak to five matches.

Hakeeb Adelakun’s thirdminute goal turned out to be enough for Rovers to move further away from the drop zone.

Defender Anderson, whose side have a 13-point cushion over Forest Green in 23rd, said: “It would have been nice to get a second and third but we said at half-time that the worst case was to win 1-0 and that’s what we did.”

HARROGATE 0 WALSALL 2

MO FAAL celebrated a first Walsall goal as the Saddlers moved to within three points of the play-off places.

West Brom loanee Faal saw a deflected effort add to Liam Gordon’s opener for the visitors.

Manager Mat Sadler said: “He’s so desperate to score goals, contribute and do well for the team.

“I am so happy for the goal he scored, which was a cracker. Once we got that goal it settled everything down.”

MORECAMBE 1 GRIMSBY 1

GWION EDWARDS was disappointed Morecambe came away with just a point in their mission to reach the play-off places.

Danny Rose put Grimsby ahead after just 80 seconds but although Jordan Slew levelled, the Shrimps couldn’t find another.

Winger Edwards said: “On another day it is four or five-one.

“We had a lot of chances and have got to take them and put the game to bed. Hopefully next week we can.”

SUTTON 1 COLCHESTER 1

OWEN GOODMAN was Colchester’s hero with a late penalty save.

Rock-bottom Sutton looked set for a comeback victory after a Charlie Lakin strike cancelled out Cameron McGeehan’s opener.

But keeper Goodman kept out Harry Smith’s spot-kick 10 minutes from time.

Goodman said: “It was a big moment for me.

“Over the last three games I hadn’t been at my best.”
